Tragedy

We've spent a couple Saturdays in January dismantling and throwing away a double-wide house and most of its contents. The fire started by accident but resulted from a six-year-old not being supervised closely and an adult not being careful to ensure that the fire he lit was completely out. It's made me think about the small things in our lives that start small but create tragedies if we don't completely extinguish them and move on. There are obvious ones like pornography and drug abuse. There are also less obvious ones like living your days out with a warring heart towards a spouse or other person you're in a close relationship with. Not being willing to repent and not being willing to forgive can eventually kill so many good things in your life, as your heart becomes unable to get as much as help from the Spirit as you need. There are many negative side effects that aren't even considered at the time but that come about as a result. It's so very important to be as 100% as you can be, to not purposely harbor anything that keeps joy out of your life. The consequences of doing so can be much greater than imagined. Been reading a good book about this called The Peacegiver, by James Ferrell.
