Stake Conference meeting
I wanted to record an experience our stake president had when he was a missionary. His landlord got upset at them for some reason and came over in the middle of the night. He got through the front door with his copy of the key and was yelling and threatening them. They were in the bedroom with a closed, unlocked door and for some reason he couldn't open that door. They decided they needed to get out of there, so they grabbed some things and went to open the bedroom door, while he was still yelling and threatening them. Once the missionary had turned the doorknob, it got quiet. They ran past their landlord, who was suddenly seated with his eyes closed. They never saw him again after that. Our stake president said that this experience taught him so much about how important it is to "turn the doorknob" before we will see God's hand. There was no change in the situation until he was totally committed to going through that door. I personally imagine that the Israelites didn't see any water actually parted until they were actually in it and a miracle was absolutely required. We have to act on what we feel confirmed to us is right, even if the way it will work out isn't fully apparent. If we do, miracles can happen when that is required.
