We are plain old hooked on cutting our old tree. For one thing, you can get one as absolutely tall as you want, and a permit's just $10 (we won't count gas here...). Really though it's just so fulfilling to look at that tree in your house and have the memory of finding and bringing that tree there. Plus you get to be outside and sled and have an adventure.
At the end of Thanksgiving weekend we headed over from Don's house in Logan to Randolph, Utah to find our tree. We've been going there every year to get a tree since Chad's sister, Crystalyn, lived there. Sadly for us, they moved to Texas this summer so we didn't get to go with them. Next year we'll probably try out Richfield by my grandma's house. We drove up the mountain further than we ever had before - the snow wasn't that deep. We were delighted to find the most perfect tree we've ever found before, and it was right by the side of the road - bonus!
While Chad did all the work cutting and tying up the tree, we did lots of sledding right on the road. We also got some great pics up there - I wish Claire could have been in them too but we were really happy that she was peacefully slumbering in the car so we could sled out in the snow.
It was really beautiful up there, especially at the perfect time of day!
