This is my third year of gardening and I'm still learning a lot. Here's what I've learned this year:
1. If you put a pumpkin plant in your garden, it will take over everything else planted there.
2. Berry bushes don't do very well their first year.

3. If your tomatoes didn't get time to ripen outside, you can put them in a box (put a piece of paper between each layer). Keep them cool and dark, and they will ripen just fine.

4. It's really, really hard to tell when a home-grown watermelon is ripe (luckily we got a few that were).

5. Things you and your toddler can pick and eat right off the plant are the best! Our favorites this year were raspberries, small tomatoes, and peas.
Kudos for gardening. Every year we prepare our garden and every year (so far) that's all we do. Hopefully next year we will be able to apply some of your tips.
